Other sources of inspiration

Besides short films, there are also several television programs I can look at for inspiration. I don't directly want to do anything they've done, not to mention most of them are for too long and in places I can't afford to go to.

The obvious one I've already mentioned is Dave Gorman's American Unchained, which was also a book of his photographs from the trip, but the program itself was interesting. He perhaps focused more on the people he came across, whereas I'm not so interested in people. But it's interesting to look at none the less.

Obviously he also ran with the purpose of doing it for free, which I think made it a more interesting idea and a pleasure to watch. This is the best sort of trailer I could find for it...

The other obvious choice is "The Long Way Round" that Ewen McGregor and Charlie Bormen did as that was a fascinating program and well shot. Similarly to "America Unchained" it is very much documentary style and focuses on them and the people they encounter, but it's brilliantly done and every minute is compelling.

Then more recently there's been the Jamie Oliver program where he travelled to America for "Jamie's American Road Trip". He went to get to the heart of American food but his journey was interesting and it was a different way of presenting a road trip for sure.

The more unconvential one is the Gumball Rally, that takes place every year, a set road trip that has to be completed in the fastest possible time. Often they end up with a lot of interesting or odd things happening and it's something else I can look at to research.
