I haven't researched tons of video either so that's what my next aim is. I found a good little one here which I love. It is in fact just stills, all blended together at 15 frames a second to create a video. They did a similar thing to the video I featured in the other entry. Set up a camera in the back of the car and had it photographing every 10 seconds on their road trip. I find it truly fascinating and it makes me want to visit the places.
Sadly, I can't find a way to embed the video, so I can only link to it, but it's definitely interesting.

I also came across Vimeo, a place to store videos, but they'd asked for people to submit road trip style videos and this one by Andy Miller called 'Southbound' I particularly liked because of the variation of shots, how he moves it from fast to slow and how he incorporates shots of people, even little comments from them. His choice in music and sounds to accompany the video is also great and fits well. Sound is the one thing I tend to struggle with when thinking of video, so it's helpful to see how someone else approaches it.
Below I have embedded a small version of it to watch.
Below are a couple of screen shots I took from the video of parts I particularly like...

At this point it cut to just rain on a window, which is an ok shot but it was the fact that they included the sound of a weather warning for the area they were actually in which was very interesting and mixed great with the storm sounds. It gave the visuals a much greater meaning.

You could tell that it wasn't just lucky shots and that it had been thought about visually. Perhaps even from a photographic point of view which I like. This shot for example just uses a torch at night to highlight them walking but you get the sense of how dark it is and unsure they are.
The video is made by one of three brothers and the other thing I loved is the real interaction you can tell goes on between them. The shots of them together are also interesting because they're so relaxed with one another and not afraid to do silly things together.
